Orchestra of the Baron Arthur Grumiaux Foundation

Conductor - Luc DEWEZ

The Baron Arthur Grumiaux Foundation's main objective is to uphold the ethical and cultural values that Master Grumiaux consistently expressed through his profound and sensitive musical interpretations. The Foundation aims to perpetuate his memory and honour the great violinist's wish to support artists, especially the younger ones.

In 2016, the Foundation took the initiative to create a chamber orchestra whose mission is to present high-level programmes to the public. This includes offering young artists, particularly the young laureates of the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition, the opportunity to perform as soloists accompanied by professional musicians.

Luc Dewez, a renowned cellist and member of the Grumiaux Trio and the Brussels String Quartet, was entrusted with the task of forming and leading this orchestra.

Luc Dewez quickly earned the trust of concert organisers by proposing well-mastered programmes that captivate audiences with their high-quality interpretations. To achieve excellence, he employs only top-tier musicians, many of whom were his students in chamber music at the Royal Conservatory of Mons. This collaboration, grounded in a strict respect for styles, technical perfection, and interpretative depth, led to the formation of the new Grumiaux Foundation Orchestra. Since its inception, the orchestra has been invited to perform at various prestigious venues including the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi, the Festival de l’Eté Mosan, the Musical Festival of Marchienne, Gerpinnes, Genval, Rixensart, the Mont-sur-Marchienne Musical Evenings, the Château de La Hulpe Festival, the Midis-Minimes Festival, the Lasne Festival, the Château de Deulin, Villers-Perwin (Grumiaux's hometown), and the Abbey of Maredsous. The Grumiaux Foundation Orchestra has become a significant player on the Belgian music scene, having performed with many renowned soloists such as Lorenzo Gatto, Yossif Ivanov, Philippe Koch, Sylvia and Stéphanie Huang, Pauline van der Rest, Louise Foor, Abdel Rahman El Bacha, and Justus Grimm.
